Lines - Image Bank

1) I selected this first photo as it portrays the basis of what a line is 'continuous without any breaks' and also because it portrays wavy lines rather than the typical straight line/s.
 2) These next two photos both demonstrate lines within nature.  The first photo is of a spider web most of which is interconnecting straight lines.  The second photo is of a forest, I like this photo as it is all made up of lines but none of them are quite straight.

3) I chose these next two images as it portrays the fact that lots of things are constructed from lines if you look close enough not just buildings and paths but also things like art(plus one of them is a stormtrooper so I had to include it)

4) This photo is of converging lines on a building, I like this photo as the more I look at it the less sure i am what angle the photo was taken from as it could have been taken from above or below the level of the top of the building.

Lines - Definitions

Dictionary definition:
- A long, narrow mark or band.
- A straight or curved continuous extent of length without breadth.

Describing words:
Straight, repeated, curved, continuous

1)  The Camera angle used for this photo gives a really nice perspective of each area of the photo, the bottom with a close-up view and as you go counter-clockwise round the photo the view of the lines changes.

2) Although this photo only consists of straight lines the repeated converging lines of both the edges of each level and the individual bricks, as well as the shadows gives the photo a great feel of depth.

3) I chose this photo as it consists of both curved and straight lines and the camera angle used helps to emphasise the curved lines that go all the way up the building.

4) Spider webs consist of lots of interlinked lines, I really like pictures of spider's webs that are frozen or beaded with water as they look really cool.  This photo consists of some long rigid lines, lots of shorter lines and some curved lines.

My definition:
A narrow continuous mark that is either straight or curved.

Lines - Work Diary

For this when I went out to take photos I looked mainly at bricks/paved paths as well as buildings as they tend to have lots of rigid lines.  I found finding things that represent line well was challenging other than the areas I have already mention.  These are two of the photos that I took:

This Photo displays the contrast between lines in shadow and lines in the light I like the contrast the shadow of me creates, to improve this I edited it and increased the contrast to create a more dramatic effect.

This one demonstrates lines in buildings, I like the difference between the bold lines of the building edges and then the smaller lines around each brick.

If I was to continue this topic I might look different compositions of lines like looking at converging lines to create a more 3d effect or the rule of thirds to emphasise specific things within the composition, also I might look at lines within nature like in these photo:
